Description: The Substance and Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reports that our Hispanic community is expected to increase to 97 million by 2050 compared to the estimated 35.3 million that reside in the U.S. today. As the Hispanic community continues to increase, so will the rise in mental health cases. This conference is designed to address the leading causes of mental health issues identified in our Hispanic community. Discussion will be centered on up to date information on developmental screening and assessment of mental health issues prevalent for every age group.nbsp;
Objectives: By the end of this conference, the participant will be able to:
- Identify the three D’s that cause mental health illness affecting the Hispanic geriatric population.
- State developmental milestones in the growth of infants/early childhood that can have an impact on future mental health problems.
- Identify challenges met by our teenagers and young adults that may contribute to mental health issues.
- Describe current treatment and resources available for individuals suffering from mental health disorders.
