The 2010 NAHN Scholarships and Awards information is now available. The scholarships and awards available are as follows:

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC NURSES $1,000 DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIPS:


These awards are presented to NAHN members enrolled in associate, diploma, baccalaureate, graduate or practical/vocational nursing programs. Selection of recipients is based on current academic standing.  Scholarship award recipients are a select group of Hispanic students who demonstrate promise of future professional contributions to the nursing profession and who have the potential to act as role models for other aspiring nursing students. To qualify for the scholarship award, the applicant must be currently enrolled in a school of nursing and be a United States citizen or legal resident of the United States.

ILDAURA MURILLO-ROHDE AWARD FOR EDUCATION EXCELLENCE:

This award is presented to honor NAHN members who have distinguished themselves in any scholarship area and/or nursing education.

HENRIETTA VILLAESCUSA COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

This award is presented by to honor NAHN members who have contributed to the improvement of health in the Hispanic community.

JANIE MENCHACA WILSON LEADERSHIP AWARD

This award is presented to honor NAHN members who have distinguished themselves as nursing leaders.

 

SARAH GOMEZ ERLACH HUMANITARIAN AWARD
This award honors NAHN members who seek to improve health delivery to the rural poor and migrant farm workers and their families.

NURSE OF THE YEAR AWARD
This Award is for a NAHN nurse who has developed a creative and innovative program, intervention, or strategy in one of the following areas:

  • Improving the quality of health care in the Hispanic community (narrowing health care disparity).
  • Recruitment, retention, professional career development (increasing the number of Hispanic nurses at all educational and professional levels).
  • NAHN organizational development at local, state, and/or the national level (growth, effectiveness, and communication within NAHN organizations, and with the community it serves).

All applications for scholarships and awards MUST be postmarked by February 26th, 2010. No exceptions will be made to this deadline.

This also serves as reminder that the membership application deadline for scholarship applicants is December 31st, 2009. Any person considering applying for the 2010 scholarship MUST have their membership application postmarked by January 31, 2010 to be eligible for the scholarship. Members must keep their membership current through the end of 2010 in order to keep scholarship eligibility.
