1. Good Standing

Must be in good academic standing with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

2. Enrollment

Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program or higher education nursing program.

Letter of Recommendation Requirements

  • Be from members of the academic community or nurse manager.

  • The recommendation letters must be sent from a valid institution’s email address.

  • The letter of recommendation should be a brief statement describing the student's character and motivation toward success.

  • Recommendation letters received from the applicant’s email address will NOT be accepted.

  • A letter of recommendation must be submitted via email to: 
    lanahn.membership@gmail.com
    Attn: Scholarship Committee

Step 2: Submitting Documents

When submitting the required documents, please write the following in the subject line: "Scholarship Application – Last name, First name”

Submit all attachments in this order:

  1. Copy of CA driver’s License.

  2. Resume/CV

  3. Proof of enrollment to the college/university being attended.

  4. Copy of unofficial transcripts.

  5. Proof of current LANAHN membership (copy of paid membership invoice must show LA NAHN CHAPTER affiliation).

  6. Essay

2026 Winter Scholarship Essay Requirement

The essay must be typed and double-spaced and must not exceed the word count (1000 words).

 

Please choose one of the following:

  1. Representation in Nursing
    Why is representation of Hispanic nurses important to the nursing profession and to the health of Hispanic communities? Describe how increasing Hispanic representation in nursing could influence patient trust, healthcare access, education, and health outcomes.

  2. Health Disparities & Social Determinants
    Choose one health disparity disproportionately affecting Hispanic communities, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, mental health, maternal health, or substance use. What social or systemic factors contribute to this disparity, and what can nurses do to address it?

  3. Commitment to Service
    Hispanic nurses have a unique opportunity to serve as advocates for vulnerable and underserved populations. Describe a community service experience that has shaped your perspective as a future nurse, or describe how you intend to give back to your community and serve vulnerable populations locally or globally. What impact do you hope to make through your service?

2026 Winter Scholarship Process

  • The 2026 LA NAHN Winter Scholarship application opens August 30th. All documents must be received by October 16, 2026.

  • We encourage applicants to start preparing their materials  well in advance of deadline in order to allow for sufficient time to obtain letters of recommendation 

  • Scholarship awardees will be announced at our Annual Gala, October 30!
